ALIVE at the foot of the Fuego Volcano

South of the towns of Ciudad Vieja and Antigua, Guatemala thrives the charming village of San Miguel Dueñas, Sacatepequez. This town is centuries old and has a strong heart beat of its very own. The deeply spiritual and exotic essence of the Volcan de Fuego (alive and smoking) seems to add a special feeling of awe, delight, loyalty and deep sense of community to those of us who are fortunate by being in such a natural grand presence....life and nature are very up-close and make it known that we are one.

FLORES and FUEGO and Leonardo Ricardo/Len!

Greetings from the foot of the Fuego Volcano. Fifteen years ago I retired from a very full working life in Retail, Wholesale, Product Development, Design and Fashion Buying. I wanted to return to Guatemala as I had spent many years visiting here, sourcing merchandise and falling in love with the people, places and things of Guatemala. I was a Fine Art major at university. During my entire working life I looked forward to "painting" again on a unlimited basis. So, I returned to Guatemala and thanks to a long time dear friend I found a studiolike/home in a place that I immediately wanted to make my forever home. Here I remain, painting everyday. I am inspired by the lushness of Guatemala, the Maya influence and the color that fills my heart. I love my Guatemalan neighbors and friends. I love color, kindness and my ultimate (maybe) adventure thank you, Guatemala.

FLORES and FUEGO and Henry Leonardo

Henry Leonardo is the son of a very fine carpenter who built/builds all my household furniture. Henry has many skills and started painting as a part-time adventure while going to school. Henry finished his school, his business degree and kept painting. He is a very talented young man, husband and father of two delightful little girls. When you come to my living/dreaming room we are always glad to see our friends. Henry is in charge of serving up the "hospitality" for visitors...it's a joy to have guests during "refaccion" or often on holidays too.

FLORES and FUEGO and Francisco Javier

Several years ago, Francisco Javier was working on his degree in Animal Husbandry (that he achieved) and also started painting with us at our informal "studio" of Flores and Fuego part time.. "Javier" has a natural talent and he learned quickly how to use the materials, explore techniques and create special/custom colors. His natural artistic ability and imagination has added much to my ability to keep expanding artistic "revelations" that keep coming as we paint. He paints furniture, home accessories, large scale paintings and minatures too. One of our most exciting departures has been to paint handmade/fired pottery and then refresh/repaint/refinish it and add to its charm by building on the original piece. Francisco Javier is a young husband and father of a spirited/pretty "princess."
